The following are papers which if you

have time, you may care to see before meeting Mr.Sloss in Mr.Gent's room at 11.30 on Wednesday.

(a) Mr.Sloss's letter of 6th July 1939 to Mr. Beresford at flagged enclosure to(42) on 53611/39.

(b) Mr.Malcolm Macdonald's letter of 9th November, 1939 to the Governor of Hong Kong stating the degree of support on Mr.Sloss's proposals which had been reached on the outbreak of war, at (38) on 53611/39.

(c) The 1939 report of the Committee which considered the development of the University at A on 55213/44.

(a) The report of the Advisory Committee which met to consider the resumption of the activities of Hong Kong University and other higher educational institutions in 1943 at

(1) on 55213/44

(e) A note of the meeting held here on the 29th December, 1944 at which you were present to consider the rehabilitation of the University, at (9).

(f) A copy of the memorandum which we put in to the Far Eastern Committee of the War Cabinet on the future of the University at (8a).

(g) My minute of the 18th October giving the names of those who have agreed to serve on a small committee which it was proposed to establish to advise on necessary planning for the immediate resuscitation of the University.

(h) Professor Roxby's views on the future place of the University in relation to the British Council's work in China is given at (38).

(i) Dr.Needham's views on the future of the University (enclosing also those of Dr.Gordon King) at (43).

(j) Sir Andrew Caldecott's reply

to an invitation to be Chairman of the Advisory Committee referred to in (g) above at (28), of which I think you have already received a copy.

I think you have at some time or other seen all of these papers except those listed at (h) and (i).
